Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham was placed on the 10-day injured list, while "The Martian" Jasson Dominguez made his major league comeback after recovering. In the June 14 game, he hit a game-tying solo home run in his second at-bat, and the Yankees took the lead in the top of the ninth inning when Paul Goldschmidt launched a go-ahead two-run shot, securing a 3–1 victory over the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays struck first in this game. In the bottom of the third inning, Kazuma Okamoto crushed his 15th homer of the season with two outs, marking his second consecutive game with a home run and giving Toronto a 1–0 lead. That lead did not last long, as in the top of the fourth, Yankees leadoff hitter Dominguez smashed his first home run since returning from injury, tying the game at 1–1.

After Gausman exited, the Yankees strung together two consecutive hits with two outs in the top of the eighth but left runners stranded. The Blue Jays loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth via three walks but failed to score. In the top of the ninth, the Yankees opened with back-to-back hits, and Goldschmidt blasted his ninth home run of the season, giving New York a 3–1 advantage. In the bottom of the ninth, the Blue Jays struck out three times in their final rally attempt, ending the game in defeat.
