Following an impressive run of health that saw him play in 74 of the first 75 games for the Los Angeles Angels this season, franchise star Mike Trout was unfortunately placed on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring pull.
This development is a hard blow for the Angels and Trout himself, as he was poised to make his first All-Star appearance since 2023. Trout sustained the injury while running to first base in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 8-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.
"It's a completely different situation from last night to today, which is a positive sign for me," Trout said. "I was a bit worried last night, but after the flight and sitting around after the game, that might have contributed. But today I feel much better. I'm not overly concerned about this injury, but I'll do everything possible in the training room and weight room to get back as quickly as I can."
Trout, a three-time AL MVP and 11-time All-Star, has been enjoying a strong resurgence this season. Across 74 games, he posted a .234/.394/.472 batting line with 17 home runs, 12 doubles, seven stolen bases, 36 RBIs, and a league-leading 54 runs scored.
With Trout heading to the injured list, the Angels have called up Christian Moore. Moore has been on a hot streak at Triple-A Salt Lake City, covering second base, third base, and some left field. The eighth overall pick in the 2024 draft, Moore posted a .333/.468/.585 slash line with nine home runs, 14 doubles, four triples, 10 stolen bases, and 45 RBIs over 51 games, earning his promotion. This is his first call-up of the season; he appeared in 53 games for the Angels last year, hitting .198/.284/.370 with seven homers and 16 RBIs.
With Trout out, Jose Siri is expected to handle most of the center field duties, while Moore could see some playing time in left field.
This move is part of a series of roster changes for the Angels. The team also activated catcher Tyler Heineman, acquired earlier in the day via cash from the Toronto Blue Jays. Catcher Logan Porter and right-hander Brett Kerry were optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake City, while right-hander Ryan Johnson was recalled from Double-A Rocket City.
