Rockets Plan Major Roster Overhaul! Open to All Trade Offers: Only Amen Approaching Untouchable Status

On June 23, Beijing time, per acclaimed journalist Kelly Iko, following a comprehensive review of the full Western Conference Finals and NBA Finals game schedules and thorough analysis, the Rockets' front office has accepted reality: both within the Western Conference and throughout the NBA, the Rockets remain far from the top-tier powerhouse level. This recognition has completely altered the team's offseason strategy—abandoning the idea of "keeping the same group for another year" in favor of a major roster shake-up.

Sources indicate that multiple rival teams have recently contacted the Rockets to explore trades, and they have all been told that 23-year-old Amen Thompson is currently the only player approaching untouchable status on the roster.

It is reported that the Rockets are not actively shopping their All-Star or other core players, but compared to past years, the management is now willing to listen to all kinds of trade proposals.

Amen Thompson is about to enter his fourth season, and his subsequent contract extension is expected to be quite lucrative. The team's leadership has made it clear they intend to keep him, planning to initiate extension talks shortly after the draft.

Internal team sources indicate that the Rockets are also keen on retaining 3-and-D forward Tari Eason. Although several teams, including the Lakers and Nets, have been probing whether they could acquire Eason via a sign-and-trade, Houston has no intention of letting him go.

Fred VanVleet is also likely to stay, either by directly exercising his $25 million player option or by negotiating a new, longer contract with the team.

After recognizing their true standing, the Rockets are also considering moving veteran forward Dorian Finney-Smith. He signed a four-year, $53 million contract last offseason and has been hampered by lingering effects from left ankle surgery over the past year. This season, his playing time, scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, and three-point percentage have all fallen to career lows.

The Rockets plan to reshape their bench unit and are ready to be aggressive in free agency. Finney-Smith's contract is the easiest salary to shed on the roster, and moving him would free up enough cap space. Sources say multiple teams around the league have expressed interest in Finney-Smith, and there is a general belief that he will fully recover from his injury and return to his normal level of play next season.
