The general manager firmly believes Curry will finish his career with the Warriors: He doesn't want to see him request a trade, and the decision on an extension is in his hands.

On August 12, Beijing time, this offseason the Warriors have mainly concentrated on retaining their own free agents, with minimal blockbuster moves. Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. aimed to dispel any worries that Stephen Curry could be dissatisfied with the team's composition. Speaking to Bay Area media via a virtual meeting today, Dunleavy said Curry has never indicated any desire to alter his long-held wish to finish his playing days with the Warriors.

"At least in front of me, he hasn't," Dunleavy said. "That has always been the attitude he conveys, and it's what we continue to discuss. I believe the mutual understanding is very solid. Obviously, he becomes eligible for an extension starting August 29, and we will discuss all related matters afterward... I am quite confident that Stephen will finish his career with the Warriors, but ultimately the decision is his. Frankly, if Curry came to me and requested a trade, Joe (Lacob) and I would sit down and seriously consider it. We certainly don't want to see that scenario, but he has the right to choose his own future. However, based on the information exchanged between both sides so far, neither we nor Curry himself have considered the possibility of him changing teams."

Now 38 years old, Curry will begin his 18th NBA season in October. He has spent all 17 previous seasons with the Warriors, holding four championship rings and two regular-season MVP awards. However, the Warriors have missed the playoffs twice in the last three years, and their offseason pursuits of Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James all fell through.

The Warriors finished last season with a 37-45 record. This offseason, the team ultimately chose to re-sign multiple in-house free agents: Draymond Green, Kristaps Porziņģis, Al Horford, De'Anthony Melton, and Gary Payton II.

Curry's current contract expires after next season, and he can officially begin extension negotiations with the team on August 29. Last month, he stated clearly in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle that he "definitely" wants to complete an extension with the Warriors. That statement came before the Warriors missed out on James and failed to make any other significant additions beyond rookie Lindy Waters III.

"Regarding Stephen, there are two things I firmly believe: he is extremely eager to win, and he wants to end his career as a Warrior," Dunleavy said. "I don't think that mindset will change, whether it's August 29, the start of the season, midseason, or the end of next season. His goal has always been the same."
