Hi everyone, I'm Xiaodi from Gaming.

I wonder if you've been watching professional matches recently. Since the Wolf Team used it last time, the Xiao Qiao + Zhong Kui combo has become extremely popular, even becoming the standard setup in peak matches. For example, in yesterday's TTG vs. AG match, both teams went to a peak match, and surprisingly, previously popular support heroes like Luban Master, Dunshan, and Shen Mengxi were all absent. Both sides chose mirror heroes of Xiao Qiao and Zhong Kui. So, can this be played in casual games?

Xiao Qiao + Zhong Kui

The conclusion is that it's absolutely viable. Let's first talk about what makes this combo strong. Zhong Kui, to be honest, is very hard to counter in-game. Even though many heroes now have abilities like unstoppable or untargetable to dodge, Zhong Kui's hook is not his ultimate, so its cooldown is relatively short. Therefore, even if he misses, there's little cost. Moreover, you can't guarantee that you'll always have the right skill ready and react in time to dodge. In other words, Zhong Kui can miss hooks countless times, but as long as he lands a few crucial ones, it can cause the enemy team to collapse.

Xiao Qiao's presence compensates for Zhong Kui's limitations, namely insufficient damage and slow follow-up control. Generally, when Zhong Kui hooks, the enemy usually has all their skills available, so the first thing they do after being pulled is to use a skill to escape quickly. If Zhong Kui doesn't follow up with his ultimate in time, the enemy can easily get away. Usually, if it's just Zhong Kui alone, the playstyle is to immediately cast his ultimate after hooking. But if he misses the hook, his ultimate also goes on cooldown.

With Xiao Qiao, it's simple. Xiao Qiao's second skill has a very short cast time. As soon as you see the hook land, releasing her second skill under Zhong Kui is perfectly timed, and its cooldown is also short, making for a great combination. At that point, Zhong Kui can follow up with his ultimate for more control. Additionally, Xiao Qiao deals high damage. A properly farmed Xiao Qiao, during the duration of her second skill and Zhong Kui's ultimate, can almost one-shot a tank, let alone other roles.

Zhong Kui's hook is hard to defend against, especially in casual games. Relatively speaking, the lower the rank, the fewer players consciously dodge skills, making it easier for Zhong Kui to land hooks. If Zhong Kui can accurately hook opponents every time, it's like picking them off one by one, causing the enemy team's rhythm to fall into chaos, naturally making them less effective in combat.

Important Notes

The coordination between Xiao Qiao and Zhong Kui is almost effortless, and many can quickly get the hang of it. However, it's worth noting that Xiao Qiao is the optimal choice. In casual games, since the requirements are lower, you can also substitute with Da Ji, Angela, or even Wang Zhaojun, as they are roughly similar. Of course, if Xiao Qiao is available, it's recommended to prioritize her.

Another point to note about this playstyle is the marksman. Since the core is the mid-support duo, similar to Zhang Liang and Wang Zhaojun, the marksman is essentially on their own. Therefore, you should choose a marksman who can withstand pressure. The most common pick is Ao Yin, whose ultimate greatly enhances survivability and provides decent damage in the late game. Additionally, heroes like Yu Ji are also worth considering.

Of course, this combo is best used in a premade team. After all, whether it's the coordination between mid and support or the marksman's ability to hold their own, these are not easily executed in casual games without communication and practice.
