Searching for promising faces for Billiards & Snooker Vietnam

On the afternoon of September 15th, the Vietnam Television Center in the Southern Region (VTV Southern Region) partnered with the Can Tho City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation (VBSF) to announce the 2026 National Billiards & Snooker Club Championship (Carom events) for the VTV Southern Region Cup, along with the 2026 National Youth Carom Championship. This marks the first time Can Tho City has been selected to host such national-level tournaments.

According to Mr. Le Son Hai, President of the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation, the tournament is not only a playground gathering the top Carom billiards athletes in the country, but also holds professional significance in assessing the actual strength, accumulating achievements, scoring national rankings, and supporting the classification of athletes. Particularly, the simultaneous organization of the youth category creates additional opportunities to discover, select, and nurture promising talents for the next generation of Vietnam's Carom billiards.

According to Mr. Lam Thanh Dung, Deputy Director of the Can Tho City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the fact that Can Tho has been selected for the first time to host a national tournament demonstrates the city's gradually expanding capacity in organizing large-scale sports events. This is also an opportunity for the locality to effectively utilize its sports facilities, promote the Billiards & Snooker movement, and enhance professional exchanges among clubs and athletes nationwide.

"Through the event, Can Tho hopes to effectively combine sports activities with promoting the image of the central city of the Mekong Delta region, contributing to attracting visitors, boosting service and tourism activities, and creating additional momentum for local socio-economic development," Mr. Lam Thanh Dung shared.

Journalist Phung Van Hiep, Deputy Director of VTV Southern Region, stated: "The event is not only a large-scale sports festival but also a practical activity to spread the campaign 'All people train their bodies following the great example of Uncle Ho', building a healthy lifestyle and improving community health. Through the tournament, the organizing committee hopes to promote the image of a dynamic and hospitable Can Tho to audiences nationwide."

The tournament will take place from October 1 to October 10, 2026, at the Can Tho City Sports Training and Competition Center (3 Le Loi Street, Cai Khe Ward, Can Tho City). The draw ceremony will be held on September 30, and the official opening ceremony will be held at 8:00 AM on October 1, 2026. The matches will be live broadcast and multi-platform streamed on VTV9 and VTV10 channels.

Expected to attract about 300 athletes competing in 4 categories: Men's 3-Cushion Carom, Men's 1-Cushion Carom, Women's 3-Cushion Carom, and Youth Men's 3-Cushion Carom (under 22 years old). Athletes will compete in a knockout format (with a shared third place), applying the current Billiards & Snooker competition rules.

The total prize value of the tournament is up to 300 million VND. Among them, the champion of Men's 3-Cushion Carom will receive 50 million VND; the first prize in Women's 3-Cushion Carom and Men's 1-Cushion Carom will receive 40 million VND each; the first prize in Youth Men's 3-Cushion Carom will receive 20 million VND. According to the Organizing Committee, the tournament is not only a basis for scoring on the National Ranking and classifying athletes but also an opportunity to select and nurture young talents for the next generation of Vietnam's Carom billiards. At the same time, the event contributes to spreading the movement of physical training, promoting tourism image, and boosting socio-economic development in Can Tho and the Southwestern region.
