Legend Patrick Vieira believes manager Mikel Arteta made a crucial tactical error by substituting Eberechi Eze during Arsenal's 1-2 loss to Manchester City.
The pivotal match at Etihad had significant implications for the Premier League title race, where Man City secured victory through goals from Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki. Arsenal's sole goal was scored by Kai Havertz following a mistake by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The decision to substitute Eze altered the course of the match
In this match, Havertz was positioned as the highest attacker, supported on the wings by Eze and Noni Madueke. Notably, Eze had a rare opportunity to start on the left flank, surpassing regular choices like Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard.
The English midfielder performed prominently by frequently moving into central areas, creating numerical advantages and contributing to the build-up play. He also nearly scored in the second half with a shot that hit the post. However, Eze was substituted in the 74th minute, replaced by Trossard.

Vieira dissatisfied with Arteta's tactics
According to Vieira, this decision cost Arsenal the chance to create a breakthrough: "He didn't hold a fixed position on the wing but moved inside to gain tactical advantage. He touched the ball frequently and was gradually making an impact. I was truly disappointed when he was substituted, as he could have created opportunities and made a difference."
The former Arsenal captain also admitted he expected his old team to at least secure a draw against Man City. However, he emphasized that the difference between the two teams lies in their mentality and experience in competing for titles.

Arteta's regret
"That's the gap between a team learning how to win and a team accustomed to conquering titles. Man City's top players made the difference," Vieira remarked.
After this defeat, Arsenal still leads the table but only by 3 points over Man City and has played one more match. Vieira believes psychological factors will play a crucial role in the remaining journey, as "The Gunners" continue to pursue their first domestic title in over two decades.
