Opta's supercomputer has issued predictions regarding Arsenal and Manchester City's chances of winning the Premier League after the conclusion of round 33.
Manchester City demonstrated the caliber of a top-tier English club with a crucial victory over Arsenal in Premier League round 33. This outcome led many to believe Arsenal's title hopes suffered a severe blow, as Manchester City's momentum surges while Mikel Arteta's squad shows signs of stagnation.
However, the supercomputer from Opta does not entirely agree with that assessment. According to simulations, Arsenal remains the strongest contender for the title, even though Manchester City's chances have significantly improved.
Prior to this round, Arsenal held a dominant advantage with a 85.2% probability of winning after 10,000 simulations, while Manchester City had only 14.8%. Following the recent matches, the Gunners' likelihood decreased to 73.0%, but they are still rated higher.
The reason lies in Mikel Arteta's squad still leading by three points. Manchester City has one match yet to be played, but they are almost forced to win that game, and even must win all remaining matches, which is no easy task in the Premier League.
Even if Manchester City achieves that, Arsenal could respond by winning all their remaining fixtures. In that scenario, the title race is likely to be decided by goal difference.
The season still has a long journey ahead, and every scenario is possible. Both teams will face matches carrying potential risks.
Notably, according to the power rankings from Opta, Arsenal has a more favorable schedule. The upcoming clash with Newcastle could be a major challenge, but their other matches are against teams in the lower half of the table (Fulham, West Ham, Burnley, and Crystal Palace).
Conversely, Manchester City will face Everton, Bournemouth, and Aston Villa, teams still competing for European qualification spots, promising considerable difficulty.
If both maintain winning streaks, the London club even holds an advantage in improving goal difference, thereby gaining control in the title race.
Nevertheless, given the Premier League's harsh nature, stumbling in seemingly easy matches is entirely possible, and this race is likely to still have many unpredictable twists.
