Vietnam U17 concluded the group stage of the 2026 Southeast Asian U17 Championship as the leader of Group A, securing a spot in the semifinals against reigning champion Australia U17. Meanwhile, host Indonesia officially stopped at the group stage. The 0-0 draw was sufficient for Vietnam U17 to retain their top position in Group A with 7 points, while also keeping a clean sheet after three matches.

Under the guidance of Coach Cristiano Roland, Vietnam U17 is maintaining an extremely impressive streak with 14 consecutive unbeaten matches. The team has achieved 10 wins, 4 draws, scoring up to 54 goals and conceding only 3 goals. The streak of 7 consecutive wins also recently ended after the draw with Indonesia.

This remarkable journey began from the 2025 Asian U17 qualifiers and continued through the 2025 Asian U17 Finals. Although unable to secure a ticket to the U17 World Cup, Vietnam U17 left a strong impression by remaining unbeaten in the group stage, drawing with very strong opponents such as Australia U17, UAE U17, and notably Japan U17.

This is the fourth consecutive time Vietnam U17 has advanced past the group stage in a regional tournament. Conversely, Indonesia for the first time stopped at the group stage after four consecutive appearances. According to the schedule, in the semifinals on April 22, Vietnam U17 will face Australia U17 – the leader of Group C and also the reigning champion of the tournament. The other semifinal is a match between Laos (leader of Group B) and Malaysia (the best-performing runner-up team).
