A dramatic victory in the penalty shootout against Club Brugge helped U19 Real Madrid claim the UEFA Youth Champions League title.
After going through over 90 minutes of intense emotions against PSG in the semifinals, U19 Real Madrid once again delivered an outstanding performance in the UEFA Youth Champions League final (the Champions League for the U19 age group).
The players in white started confidently and quickly imposed their game. From the early minutes, Yanez became a standout on the right flank with his speedy dribbling, constantly disrupting Brugge's defense and forcing goalkeeper Driessche to work hard.
The opening goal came in the 23rd minute for U19 Real Madrid after a very coordinated play. Ciria and Yanez linked up smoothly before Fortea delivered a low cross into the box. Jacobo Ortega rushed in to finish with an improvised backheel shot, securing a deserved advantage for the Spanish representative.
After the goal, U19 Real continued to create more opportunities, with Jacobo nearly doubling the lead. However, the momentum gradually shifted towards U19 Club Brugge. The Belgian team began to find their rhythm, particularly thanks to the dynamism of Koren on the wing, who continuously caused trouble for Madrid's defense.
In the 63rd minute, U19 Club Brugge equalized. Koren accelerated and sent a dangerous pass inside, placing Jensen in a favorable position to finish, bringing the match back to a balanced state.
Shortly after, the players in blue and black almost completed the comeback by exploiting a defensive mistake. However, Aguado timely retreated to save the situation with a decisive intervention, preserving the game state for his team. That was a crucial moment.
The remaining minutes unfolded with a tug-of-war. Both teams continuously created chances but neither succeeded in capitalizing. Yanez and Lacosta repeatedly tested Driessche, while Madrid's defense remained solid. Towards the end, the match became increasingly tense as both sides played cautiously, unwilling to make mistakes.
The penalty shootout became the only way to determine the winner.
U19 Club Brugge successfully converted their first shot, but Real Madrid players immediately responded with Liberto's accurate kick. The turning point came when goalkeeper Javier Navarro made a successful save, giving the Spanish representative the advantage. Yanez executed calmly, and even though U19 Club Brugge kept hope alive with Musuayi's shot, U19 Real remained unwavering. Carlos Diez continued to score, before Navarro shone once again, denying Koren's shot.
In the decisive kick, Aguado maintained his composure to score successfully, concluding the penalty shootout with a 4-2 victory for U19 Real Madrid.
This is the second time Real Madrid's young players have claimed the UEFA Youth Champions League title, after the first in 2020. This achievement partly reflects the clear progress of the youth training system, which is gradually inheriting and continuing the rich success tradition of the club in the Champions League arena, a competition where they are still regarded as the "king" with 15 titles.
