Speaking at the press conference before the semifinal of the 2026 Southeast Asian U17 Championship, head coach Cristiano Roland affirmed that the Vietnam U17 team has prepared thoroughly and is ready to face the major challenge against reigning champion Australia U17.
According to coach Cristiano Roland's assessment, Australia U17 is a team with good professional quality, having recently undergone experience in international tournaments and possessing a squad that plays regularly. Coach Cristiano Roland said: "We have studied carefully and grasped the strengths of the Australian team. They are certainly a formidable opponent."
The Brazilian tactician also shared further that before this important match, the Vietnam U17 coaching staff has developed tactical plans to limit the opponent's strengths, while maximizing the capabilities of our own team. Coach Cristiano Roland emphasized: "We have plans to counter the opponent and aim for the best match. The players are currently very excited and ready for tomorrow's game."
The strategist born in 1976 also believes this is a crucial moment for Vietnam U17 to demonstrate their capability. After the preparation period before the tournament and progress through each match, the whole team is aiming to achieve positive results. He said: "The players are improving with each match. The upcoming game is a major challenge, and we always prepare the best so they can enjoy the match as well as achieve good results."
On the other side of the battle line, Australia U17 head coach Carl Veart expressed great respect for Vietnam U17. He assessed that Vietnamese players possess good individual technique and quick transition ability, which Australia U17 needs to pay special attention to in organizing defense.
Coach Carl Veart stated: "We controlled the game quite well in previous matches, but this match will be different. The players need to maintain high concentration throughout the 90 minutes and cannot afford mistakes."
Regarding the tournament journey, coach Carl Veart said Australia U17 has faced various challenges and is well prepared for long-term goals, including the AFC U17 Championship Finals. However, he affirmed his team must further elevate their performance quality when facing Vietnam U17. Coach Carl Veart said: "Vietnam is the strongest opponent we have encountered in this tournament. The upcoming semifinal will certainly be very exciting and of high professional quality."
The semifinal between Vietnam U17 and Australia U17 will take place at 7:30 PM tomorrow (April 22).
