Toni Kroos has officially spoken out to quell rumors of returning to Real Madrid, stating that he has concluded his career perfectly and has no intention of coming back.
In the context of Real Madrid experiencing a severe crisis under interim coach Alvaro Arbeloa, the name Toni Kroos once again becomes the focal point of expectations.
Since the German midfielder retired in the summer of 2024, the void he left in the midfield has yet to be filled, especially after the subsequent departure of Luka Modric. The consecutive failures in the Champions League, the Copa del Rey, and being 9 points behind Barcelona in La Liga have led fans to dream of a comeback for the "Architect" number 8.
However, appearing at the Laureus World Sports Awards, Toni Kroos poured cold water on these speculations. Faced with relentless questions about the situation at Bernabeu, the 36-year-old former midfielder was quite sharp: “I will not answer any more questions if they are related to Real Madrid”.
When asked directly about the possibility of returning to stabilize the dressing room, Kroos firmly stated: “No, actually no. I never thought about it because I stopped exactly as I wanted”.
For the 2014 World Cup champion, returning to the pitch at this moment is unimaginable and unnecessary. He shared passionately: “I have closed the book; even if I thought about coming back, it's now too late, I always feel things couldn't have ended better”.
Kroos believes that trying to extend his career after reaching its peak only leads to worse outcomes: “Everything that happens afterward will be worse. Now I have other motivations in life and other projects. That chapter ended beautifully for me, and I can leave happily”.
Although refusing to return to the pitch, Kroos still expresses absolute trust in the successor of the number 8 jersey, Federico Valverde. He declared succinctly but firmly: “Valverde is the best. I will say this very simply and clearly”. This is seen as a spiritual message to the next generation during a period when Real Madrid faces the risk of ending the season without any titles.
Even though the playing door has slammed shut, fans can still hope for a new role for Kroos. Sources from the newspaper AS indicate, Real Madrid is planning to bring him into the club's sports structure from the summer of 2026.
With an impressive record of 21 major and minor titles after 463 matches for the Royal club, Kroos's experience and vision will undoubtedly be valuable assets to help Real Madrid rebuild after a turbulent season.
