Hong Kong becomes the focal point with a tournament featuring four major European clubs, delivering a vibrant summer football feast with top-tier matches and notable pre-season trials.
Hong Kong is preparing for an explosive summer as the Hong Kong Football Festival (HKFF) officially returns, bringing the allure of top European names. The event runs from July 31 to August 5, centered around two major matches at the 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium, marking a significant step in restoring the special administrative region's international sports status.
The four participating clubs include Manchester City, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Juventus – iconic representatives of European football's decades of success. The opening match on August 1 features a showdown between Manchester City and Inter, while Chelsea faces Juventus on August 5. These are not merely friendly matches but also serve as crucial squad tests ahead of the 2026/27 season – a key detail reflecting the tournament's professional caliber.
This year's event follows the success of the previous edition, which attracted over 100,000 spectators, demonstrating the strong appeal of top-tier football in Hong Kong. The organizers emphasized that gathering four major clubs is clear evidence of confidence in the city's organizational capabilities. Notably, in a World Cup year, the clubs are expected to bring high-quality squads, combining star players and squad depth.
Ms. Rachael Carroll, CEO of TEG Sport, stated “bringing the festival back with four top clubs demonstrates faith in the city's ability to host premier sporting events.” Meanwhile, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui affirmed that major international events “help promote community engagement, strengthen sports culture, and attract tourists,” while also highlighting the confidence European clubs have in the Hong Kong market.
President of the Hong Kong, China Football Association Eric Fok Kai-shan also recognized the festival as a symbol of long-standing football passion, with strong support from fans in the region. This continues to drive HKFF 2026 towards similar success, even surpassing the previous edition in scale and impact.
Tickets will be sold in multiple phases, starting May 13 (pre-sale) and May 14 (general sale), with prices ranging from 399 to 2,999 HKD. Additionally, open training sessions at Kai Tak Stadium, along with 10,000 free tickets for the community and youth, show efforts to broaden access, making the festival not just a sporting event but also a cultural and community bridge.
