Saudi Pro League receives warning due to Ronaldo

The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League once created a massive surge, placing this league on the world football map. But if the Portuguese superstar leaves, will that "bubble" burst?

After parting ways with Manchester United at the end of 2022, Ronaldo shocked the world by joining Al-Nassr with a record-breaking contract. This deal was not only significant professionally but also initiated a wave of major stars heading to the Middle East.

Speaking to GOAL, former player Paul-Jose M’Poku believes the Saudi Pro League has a long-term plan and does not entirely depend on Ronaldo. He emphasized: “They haven’t fully established themselves yet, but they are in the process of building. Now they have shifted to a new strategy, focusing on recruiting young players and aiming for a long-term future.”

According to M’Poku, clubs in Saudi Arabia are striving to professionalize the system, from the national league to lower divisions, aiming to create a sustainable foundation rather than relying solely on high-profile deals.

Nevertheless, Ronaldo’s influence is undeniable. The Portuguese player always makes a difference wherever he goes. M’Poku acknowledged: “Whenever Ronaldo arrives or leaves, there is always an impact. At Juventus, then at Almeria, everywhere, both on and off the pitch.”

However, he also asserted that Ronaldo’s departure from the Saudi Pro League would not lead to collapse: “There will be an impact, but I don’t think it’s something so huge that everything collapses.”

In reality, the Saudi Pro League is gradually transforming from a "temporary phenomenon" into a long-term project, with systematic investment and a clear strategy. And whether Ronaldo stays or not, the legacy he leaves will undoubtedly continue shaping the future of Middle Eastern football for many years to come.
