Chelsea FC is deeply entrenched in crisis following a series of poor performances, and according to Gary Cahill, the FA Cup is the final opportunity to salvage the season.
Chelsea is plunging into a severe crisis after a 0-3 defeat against Brighton, and according to former captain Gary Cahill, the FA Cup is now the only "savior" for them to avoid a failed season.
The loss at Amex not only pushed Chelsea FC down to 7th place but also marked a streak of 5 consecutive matches without scoring, the worst record since 1912. This has left Cahill deeply concerned ahead of the FA Cup semi-final, where they will face Leeds United.
“Leeds certainly sees Chelsea as a ‘injured beast’ and believes they have a great opportunity,” Cahill shared. “A semi-final should have been an opportunity to break through, but at this moment Chelsea lacks confidence and motivation.”
The former English defender emphasized that the FA Cup title is almost a mandatory goal if Chelsea wants to salvage the season: “This is the moment they must react strongly. Otherwise, everything will become very bad.”
Meanwhile, manager Liam Rosenior also could not hide his disappointment after the weak performance of his players. He bluntly called this “the worst match” in his coaching career.
“Unacceptable in every aspect from attitude, spirit to intensity. I cannot continue defending the players with what has happened,” Rosenior said. “We lacked desire, lacked responsibility. That does not match the stature of this club.”
Chelsea is currently 7 points behind the top 5 and faces the risk of missing out on European cups next season. In the context of a depleted squad due to the absence of key players like Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro, pressure weighs heavily on the entire team. The FA Cup semi-final is therefore not just a match, but also the last chance for Chelsea to save its honor and a season on the verge of collapse.
