Chelsea confirms that starting from the next season, all their home matches in the Women's Super League will be held at Stamford Bridge.
Recently, Chelsea Women's team confirmed that from the 2026/27 season, the team will play all their Women's Super League matches at Stamford Bridge.
This move follows Arsenal's footsteps, who similarly shifted to playing at Emirates last summer. They still play domestic cup matches and Champions League group stage games at Meadow Park.
However, this season, under coach Sonia Bompastor, the team has played all European home matches at Stamford Bridge, while still playing most matches at Kingsmeadow in Kingston, southwest London. This stadium was the first owned by a women's football team and has been Chelsea Women's main home ground for nearly a decade. They became the sole users in November 2020 when AFC Wimbledon, who shared the stadium, moved to Plough Lane.
This stadium was considered a new home option for Chelsea after coach Sonia Bompastor stated in January that the club was exploring alternatives beyond Kingsmeadow.
Currently, that plan has been confirmed as a full transition to Stamford Bridge, though it remains unclear where domestic cup matches will be held. It is likely that Champions League matches will still take place at the stadium in west London, while Kingsmeadow continues to be used for the women's academy matches.
The club stated this decision was made after consulting Chelsea players, partners, fan advisory board, and related groups, and will increase capacity from under 5,000 to 40,000 seats.
A club announcement reads: “Stamford Bridge will provide Chelsea Women with a stage worthy of the club's achievements and ambitions, a place to compete and win.
This is not just a stadium, but a statement of direction. With all Women's Super League matches being held at Stamford Bridge, this decision reflects the club's long-term belief in the potential of women's football, as well as its responsibility in promoting the sport's growth.
By establishing a permanent home at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea Women is investing not only for the present but also for future legacy. Playing here will enhance visibility, provide stability for fans, unlock potential, and inspire the next generation as the sport continues to evolve.”
