Former HAGL youth player who once joined the Vietnam national team unexpectedly switches to amateur football.

From a highly-rated young talent who competed in the AFC U20 Championship, Minh Tien no longer plays professionally and draws attention by wearing an amateur team jersey.

Hoang Minh Tien was once considered one of the promising prospects from the HAGL academy, which has produced many talents for Vietnamese football. Born in 2005, this striker made an early mark in youth levels, showing strong development potential. His initial progress helped him gain significant attention from professionals and fans.

In 2022, Minh Tien had the opportunity to train in Germany with the Vietnam U.17 team and became one of two players retained for intensive training at U.17 Eintracht Frankfurt. This was a crucial turning point, opening up many expectations for the young striker's future. However, from that promising foundation, Minh Tien's subsequent story took a direction few anticipated.

During training in Germany, Minh Tien received positive evaluations from experts, indicating he had the capability to develop in a modern football environment. Returning home, the player continued to prove himself by helping HAGL win the national U.21 championship in 2024, a notable achievement in his youth career.

Not stopping there, Minh Tien also featured in the Vietnam U.20 squad for the AFC U.20 Asian Cup 2023. At that time, HAGL contributed three players to the national team, and his inclusion alongside prominent names such as Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Dinh Bac, and Nguyen Quoc Viet demonstrated the great trust the coaching staff placed in him.

Nevertheless, when stepping into the professional football environment, Minh Tien could not make the breakthrough expected. Although he was promoted to HAGL's first team and at times recalled to strengthen the squad, he still could not secure his position. The fierce competition and high demands of top-level football seemed to be a major barrier.

By September 2025, the striker born in 2005 left HAGL to join Thanh Nien TP.HCM Club on loan. However, shortly after, news that he stopped pursuing professional football at age 20 surprised many. Some sources even suggested he moved abroad with his family for settlement, though unconfirmed.

Currently, Minh Tien appears in the jersey of an amateur football team. While this is a reputable team in grassroots football, the fact that a player with formal training and international experience has left the professional arena still leaves many regretful.

From a talent who once trained in Germany, was highly rated and participated in continental competitions, Hoang Minh Tien has chosen a very different path. His story reflects the harsh reality of football: not every young talent can complete the professional journey as initially expected.
