Malaysian Newspaper: 'Vietnam is Too Strong, Crushing Our Dream of Winning the Cup'

Malaysian media admits that Vietnam's U17 team was overwhelmingly dominant in the final, forcing Malaysia's U17 to helplessly witness their rival's convincing championship victory at the 2026 Southeast Asia U17 competition.

Malaysian media, specifically the reputable sports site MakanBola, had notable reactions after Malaysia's U17 lost to Vietnam's U17 in the final of the 2026 Southeast Asia U17 tournament.

According to MakanBola, Malaysia's U17 dream of lifting the cup officially ended as they could not overcome a Vietnam U17 team that played with great confidence and effectiveness. The young Malaysian squad had hoped to repeat their championship feat from 2019, but against a superior opponent, all efforts proved futile.

From the very beginning of the match, Vietnam's U17 team actively imposed their game plan and quickly created significant pressure. Malaysia's goalkeeper Adam Nurfakrullah had to work hard to continuously block dangerous shots. However, by the 11th minute, Malaysia's defense still could not hold firm as Đào Quy Vương opened the scoring for Vietnam.

Shortly after, Malaysia had an opportunity to equalize but unfortunately failed to capitalize. Instead, they conceded a second goal late in the first half following Nguyễn Văn Dương's strike, thus entering halftime with a two-goal deficit.

In the second half, Coach Shukor Adan's team tried to adjust their play style to seek a goal to narrow the gap. However, all hope nearly ended when Nguyễn Văn Dương completed his double in the 55th minute, raising the score to 3-0 for Vietnam's U17.

MakanBola noted that despite the defeat, Malaysia's U17 still deserved praise for reaching the final, repeating an achievement after many years. However, they also admitted that Vietnam's U17 was a superior team and fully deserved the championship.

This defeat could be a valuable lesson for Malaysian youth football to continue improving in the future, while Vietnam's U17 once again affirmed its leading regional status.
