Ho Chi Minh City Police FC achieved a minimal 1-0 win right at Ha Tinh's ground, thus halting a run of three consecutive defeats and reducing the burden on manager Le Huynh Duc.
Ho Chi Minh City Police FC clinched a crucial 1-0 victory on Ha Tinh's home turf in the 20th round of V.League on April 26th. Despite facing significant pressure from the hosts, coach Le Huynh Duc's team held firm to claim all three points, ending a disappointing run of form and notably improving their league position.
Before this challenging away fixture, coach Le Huynh Duc drew attention by placing Tien Linh on the bench. The scoring responsibility was entrusted to players like Khoa Ngo, Raphael, and notably Williams Lee. This change quickly proved effective as the visiting team started confidently and proactively executed a counter-attacking strategy.
In the 12th minute, from Nguyen Thai Quoc Cuong's precise free-kick, Williams Lee moved intelligently to evade Ha Tinh's defenders before leaping high to head the ball past goalkeeper Nguyen Thanh Tung. The home team's defenders lacked decisiveness in this situation, allowing the Vietnamese-British striker to score relatively easily, opening the scoring for Ho Chi Minh City Police FC.
The early goal boosted the visitors' morale. They continued to create several dangerous opportunities thanks to Raphael's mobility and Williams Lee's wide-ranging movement. On the opposite side, Ha Tinh responded strongly with sharp attacking plays. However, both Makrillos Raphael for the visitors and Charles Atshimene for the hosts lacked precision in their final finishing attempts.
Entering the second half, Ha Tinh poured all efforts into their offensive front to seek an equalizer. Coach Nguyen Cong Manh successively introduced attack-minded players like Vu Quang Nam and Le Viktor to increase pressure. The Hong Mountain team controlled the ball better, continuously pushing their formation forward, forcing Ho Chi Minh City Police FC's defense to laboriously withstand pressure for most of the half.
Nevertheless, on a day when the home team's forwards lacked sharpness and were unlucky in key moments, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC's defense remained resilient to preserve the 1-0 score until the end. This victory helped coach Le Huynh Duc's team climb to 5th place in the standings, simultaneously ending a three-match losing streak without scoring. More importantly, the pressure on the experienced coach was somewhat relieved.
