Vietnam U17 brings championship trophy home, aiming for major goal at AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026.
On April 26 evening, the Vietnam U17 national team returned home amid enthusiastic welcome from fans after brilliantly winning the 2026 Southeast Asian U17 Championship. At Noi Bai International Airport, General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu along with leaders of various departments represented the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to present flowers and congratulate the entire team after their successful competition journey.
The Southeast Asian championship is considered a deserved reward for the persistent efforts of coach Cristiano Roland and his players, while affirming the clear progress of Vietnamese youth football. Sharing at the airport, General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu congratulated the whole team and highly praised their competitive spirit, effort, and discipline throughout the tournament.
Additionally, VFF leadership emphasized that the regional achievement is part of the long-term development roadmap for Vietnamese youth football, aiming to build a successor force for the national team.
“VFF always sets goals for youth teams when participating in regional, continental, and FIFA qualifying tournaments. Winning the Southeast Asian championship is a positive signal, but the ultimate goal remains larger arenas,” General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu stressed.
According to General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu, success in the region is only the beginning. The important thing is that players need to continue striving, maintain their desire, and aim for challenges at higher levels. “A World Cup ticket is the goal of a long process. The players are very young, the joy of victory is understandable, but ahead are much greater challenges,” General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu emphasized.
On behalf of the whole team, coach Cristiano Roland expressed gratitude for the attention and support from VFF throughout the preparation and competition process. The Brazilian tactician affirmed that the championship is a motivational source for the team to continue striving, and stressed that Vietnam U17 will quickly shift focus to the important goal ahead: the AFC U17 Asian Cup finals.
