Liverpool's first summer signing! €40 million deal for 22-year-old Spanish international winger, with Real Madrid set to receive a 50% sell-on fee.

On June 18, Beijing time, prominent transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano used his trademark "Here we go" to confirm that Premier League powerhouse Liverpool hijacked Newcastle's move to secure 22-year-old Spanish winger Muñoz. Muñoz is now Liverpool's first signing of the summer window. Romano remarked: "This is yet another unexpected twist in the transfer market."

It is understood that although Newcastle had been in advanced negotiations for several days, Liverpool intervened mid-process, reached a verbal agreement with Muñoz, and activated the €40 million release clause.

Everything for this deal is now in place, and the contract signing is imminent. Muñoz will sign a contract with Liverpool until 2032. In this transfer, Real Madrid will receive a €20 million sell-on fee.

Born on July 13, 2003, Muñoz plays as a left winger, known for his speed and dribbling skills. He joined La Masia at age 11, later moved to Damm, and then joined Real Madrid in 2021. Last summer, Osasuna signed Muñoz from Real Madrid Castilla for €5 million.

In the 2025-26 season, Muñoz made 36 appearances for Osasuna, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists. He is currently valued at €30 million by German outlet Transfermarkt. Thanks to his impressive performances last season, Muñoz was also included in Spain's 26-man squad for the men's World Cup.

Undoubtedly, Muñoz is a targeted signing requested by Liverpool's new manager, Imanol Idiakez. As a Spaniard, Idiakez indeed needs to bring in several compatriots to help stabilize the dressing room in his first season.
