Phu Tho province is set to be the host for the 2027 U20 Asian qualifiers, with matches taking place at Viet Tri Stadium, where Vietnam's U20 team will vie for a berth in the finals against top Asian sides.
Phu Tho continues to be chosen as the venue for an important international football event in Asia, officially hosting the 2027 U20 Asian qualifiers. This decision was made after the Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee agreed to collaborate with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to organize the matches at Viet Tri Stadium, a venue that has left its mark on many international football events in recent years.
According to the plan, the 2027 U20 Asian qualifiers will take place from August 31 to September 6, featuring four teams, with a total of six matches being played. This is an opportunity for fans in the Ancestral Land to continue enjoying high-quality youth football competitions, while also contributing to a lively atmosphere for the local sports movement.
Viet Tri Stadium is regarded as one of the top international football venues in Vietnam today. After several successful hosts of regional and continental tournaments, its facilities have been comprehensively upgraded with a standard pitch, modern lighting system, media and broadcasting areas, as well as security, medical, and logistical conditions meeting the requirements of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
In addition to its excellent facilities, Phu Tho also possesses extensive experience in organizing large-scale sports events. The effective coordination between local departments and the VFF in previous tournaments provides a solid foundation for the province to confidently aim for a successful U20 Asian qualifier, both professionally and organizationally.
For the Vietnam U20 team, the journey to secure a ticket to the finals will not be easy. The coaching staff and their players are in Group C, alongside highly rated opponents including Iran, North Korea, and Palestine. Among them, Iran is the top-seeded team and has always been considered a powerhouse in Asian youth football. The other two opponents also possess formidable professional foundations, promising fierce competition.
It is expected that Vietnam U20 will regroup in late July after the 2026 National U21 Championship concludes to prepare for this important campaign. Playing at their home ground, Viet Tri, is anticipated to be a major advantage for the young Vietnamese players. At the same time, the event will help promote the image of Phu Tho, boost local tourism, and further affirm Viet Tri's status as a familiar destination for international football tournaments.
