Vietnamese-born goalkeeper Patrik Lê Giang asserts that the competition for a spot in the Vietnam national team is fair, while also sending best wishes to his close friend Nguyễn Filip. Upon joining the Vietnam national team at the Grand Plaza Hotel to prepare for the 2026 ASEAN Cup, goalkeeper Patrik Lê Giang shared his thoughts on Nguyễn Filip's absence.

"Filip has been my friend since we played together in Europe. His absence from the national team this time is the head coach's decision.

This is professional football. Filip is also preparing to compete with his club in the Asian Cup.

I wish Filip all the best. I hope he returns to the Vietnam national team soon. I will give my best effort. The lineup decisions are up to the coaching staff," Patrik Lê Giang stated.

Born in 1992 in Slovakia, Patrik Lê Giang previously played for Slovakia's U19 and U21 teams. He returned to Vietnam to play for Cong An Ha Noi in 2023 before moving to Ho Chi Minh City FC (now Cong An Ho Chi Minh City). Earlier this year, the overseas Vietnamese goalkeeper completed procedures to obtain Vietnamese citizenship.

Top group in the national futsal league maintains rankings

On the afternoon of June 22, the last two matches of round 8 in the 2026 HDBank National Futsal Championship took place at Cau Giay Gymnasium (Hanoi). There were no surprises as Thai Son Bac and Sai Gon Titans both secured victories, keeping their positions on the standings.

In the clash against Ha Noi, a turning point came when there were just over 10 seconds left in the first half. From a midfield free kick, national team player Da Hai unleashed a sharp shot to open the scoring for Thai Son Bac.

In the second half, Da Hai continued to find the net, making it 2-0. Quang Nguyen added two more goals in the 24th and 33rd minutes, with Dinh Vu's own goal in the 32nd minute in between.

Although Tung Lam pulled one back for Ha Noi in the 36th minute after a mistake by goalkeeper Van Tu, Thai Son Bac controlled the game. Ngoc Anh extended the lead to 6-1 in the 38th minute, before Van Tuan sealed a 2-6 defeat for the capital team in the final seconds.

This victory helped Thai Son Bac keep pace with the leading group, while the order at the top remained unchanged after round 8.

Nguyen Filip speaks out about his absence from the Vietnam national team

On his personal page, Nguyen Filip confirmed that he is always ready to contribute to the national team, but the decision not to join this time was made after an agreement between his club and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

The goalkeeper of Cong An Ha Noi wrote: "It has always been a great honor for me to represent Vietnam, especially in a major tournament like the ASEAN Cup. However, after reaching an agreement between the club and VFF, I will stay with my club to strive for a spot in the AFC Champions League Elite.

I believe that if we succeed, this will be a very beneficial step in the long run, not only for the club but also for Vietnamese football and the national team.

I will definitely follow and wish my teammates the best of luck."

For this training camp, the Vietnam national team has called up three goalkeepers: Dang Van Lam, Tran Trung Kien, and Patrik Le Giang.
