According to a TTXVN correspondent in the US, the new format with 48 teams and a 32-team knockout stage has made the title race more unpredictable than ever. However, after the initial matches, experts have partly sketched out the "power map" of World Cup 2026.

Among the brightest contenders, defending champion Argentina continues to demonstrate the class of a top team. Though now 39 years old, superstar Lionel Messi remains the focal point of the South American side's play. Alongside Messi's experience is the youthful energy of players like Enzo Fernández and Lisandro Martínez, helping Argentina maintain a balance between composure and dynamism.

France has also affirmed its status as a top powerhouse. After a cautious start, Didier Deschamps' squad regained their explosiveness thanks to Kylian Mbappé's excellent form and effective support from Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembélé. The rapid attack remains the most fearsome weapon of "Les Bleus."

Meanwhile, the host United States has become an intriguing phenomenon of the tournament. Under coach Mauricio Pochettino, the "Stars and Stripes" secured early advancement and displayed energetic, fast-paced play with strong fighting spirit. The success of the U.S. not only generates great excitement for the tournament but also elevates the status of soccer in the country. Brazil remains among the championship contenders despite certain doubts about its defense. The South American side continues to place high hopes on the talent of Vinicius Junior, regarded as the new generation leader of "Selecao." Spain also shows they are still a formidable opponent. The rapid maturation of young talent Lamine Yamal brings new vitality to the traditional possession-based play of the "Bull" nation.

Alongside the familiar giants, World Cup 2026 has also witnessed the rise of several teams capable of creating surprises. Norway has emerged as a phenomenon thanks to Erling Haaland's explosive form. This striker is becoming one of the tournament's most effective scorers and the greatest hope for the Nordic side. Canada and Cape Verde are also rated as teams that could spring surprises in the knockout rounds. With the advantage of relaxed psychology and energetic play, they could become "spoilers" in the title race.

As the round of 32 is set to begin on June 28, all predictions are merely for reference. World Cup history has repeatedly shown that the gap between championship contenders and lower-rated teams is sometimes decided by a moment of brilliance or a small mistake. That is precisely what makes World Cup 2026 more captivating than ever. The power map has gradually become clear, but the road to the golden cup remains long and full of unpredictable surprises.
