5-0! 1-0! World Cup frenzy: 9 Asian teams exposed, 7 advance, 5 eliminated, 6 matches tomorrow

On June 24 Beijing time, the second round of the World Cup group stage ended with two blockbuster games. Newcomer Uzbekistan was routed 0-5 by Portugal, dealing a heavy blow to Asian teams. Colombia defeated Congo DR 1-0 to claim two straight wins and advance early. This means seven of the 32 teams have now secured knockout spots, while five have been eliminated. Both matches were broadcast live on Migu Video with high-definition coverage and excellent commentary, highly recommended for fans.

Uzbekistan vs Portugal. Uzbekistan qualified for the World Cup for the first time after seven attempts thanks to the expanded format. In their debut, they lost 1-3 to Colombia but scored their first-ever World Cup goal. Today, against tournament favorite Portugal, the pressure was on the Europeans after they were held 1-1 by Congo DR in the opener. Portugal came out firing, scoring five goals from multiple players to crush Uzbekistan 5-0, a painful result for the Asian newcomers.

Colombia vs Congo DR. Colombia, a South American powerhouse in their seventh World Cup, beat Uzbekistan 3-1 in the first round. Congo DR, appearing for the second time, stunned Portugal 1-1 in their opener. In the second match, Colombia dominated and created numerous chances, but Congo's defense held firm and the goalkeeper made several saves. Finally, in the 76th minute, Muñoz broke the deadlock to give Colombia a 1-0 victory, securing two wins and early qualification—the seventh team to do so. Congo DR still has a chance; they need a big win against Uzbekistan in the final round to possibly advance as one of the best third-placed teams.

So far, seven teams have qualified for the knockout stage with two consecutive wins: Mexico, USA, Germany, France, Argentina, Norway, and Colombia. Five teams—Haiti, Turkey, Tunisia, Jordan, and Panama—have been eliminated after two losses. Asian teams had a tough second round, with only one win, one draw, and seven losses in nine matches. Only Japan managed to uphold Asian pride; the others seem to be just making up the numbers.

Tomorrow features six matches, with the final round of Groups A, B, and C played simultaneously. At 3:00 AM, Group B sees Switzerland vs host Canada, and Bosnia vs Asian Cup winners Qatar. At 6:00 AM, Group C has Scotland vs five-time world champions Brazil, and African powerhouse Morocco vs minnows Haiti. At 9:00 AM, Group A features Czech Republic vs host Mexico, and South Africa vs Asian powerhouse South Korea. Exciting games ahead!
