Carlos Alcaraz is the reigning Roland Garros champion after his classic victory over Jannik Sinner in the 2025 final.
World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz faces the risk of missing Roland Garros 2026 as his right wrist injury still shows no signs of complete recovery. Medical test results in the coming days are considered the decisive factor for the Spanish star's ability to participate in the second Grand Slam of the year.
Speaking to the media during the Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony in Madrid, Alcaraz stated that he and his team are still awaiting final evaluations from the doctors.
"We will assess the situation. The upcoming tests are crucial for making a decision.", the 22-year-old player said while appearing with his right wrist immobilized.
Previously, Carlitos had to withdraw from the Madrid Open to avoid worsening the injury. This decision was made after he also abandoned his campaign at the Barcelona Open, despite having won his opening match against Otto Virtanen.
The consecutive withdrawals from major clay-court tournaments have significantly impacted Carlos Alcaraz's preparation for Roland Garros. Given that he is the reigning champion for two consecutive years in Paris, the risk of not being able to defend his title is certainly a concern for fans.
Nevertheless, the 22-year-old player remains optimistic. "I am staying patient. These days might feel a bit long, but we believe everything will be fine. It's important to monitor the body's response and make the right decision.", he added.
According to the plan, the next tournament Alcaraz aims for is the Rome Masters, where he previously claimed the title. However, the Spanish player's participation in this Masters 1000 event remains uncertain, entirely dependent on the condition of his injury.
